How to Crochet a Chain
The foundation for all other crochet stitches.
Every crochet project starts here: with a loop pulled through a loop pulled through a loop.

How to Do It
Basic Principle:
You’ll be pulling one loop at a time through the previous loop with a crochet hook.
Steps
- Create a slip knot and insert your hook through the loop.
- Wrap the yarn in your non-dominant hand (the same as for Continental Knitting style) to create tension.
- Catch the yarn with the hook and pull it back through the loop.
- Repeat step three until you have the desired number of loops. One loop equals one stitch, including your original slip knot loop.
- Congrats! You’ve made a crochet chain!
